Make your first lower third

A lower third is the name strap shown near the bottom of the screen. This guide builds one from Studio's ready-made recipe, so you start with a working, editable graphic rather than a blank canvas.

1. Add the recipe

Above the canvas, open + Recipe… and choose Lower Third. Studio adds a group of ordinary layers with editable data fields and an entrance and exit animation already in place.

The same menu offers Bug / DOG, Ticker / Crawl, Scoreboard and Clock. Each recipe creates normal layers, so everything stays editable afterwards.

2. Edit the design

  • Select a text layer on the canvas or in Layers, then change its content, font and colour in Properties.
  • Select the panel shapes to change their fill, size or position.
  • Use the arrange and align buttons above the canvas to tidy the layout.

If your project has a Brand Kit, use its colours and fonts instead of typing values, so the lower third matches the rest of your package.

3. Check the animation

Press Space with the timeline focused to play. The timeline pauses at each OGraf step, the moment where the graphic waits on air for the operator. See Animate with steps and keyframes to change the timing.

4. Preview it as an operator would

Open Preview & Export:

  • Next step ⏭ takes the graphic in, or on to its next step.
  • Take Out plays the exit.
  • Fullscreen fills the display with the graphic. In fullscreen, Space or Right Arrow goes to the next step, Left Arrow to the previous one, and Escape exits.

5. Save the project

Choose Save Project. Pick the frame to use for the thumbnail, then save. Studio writes Template Name.ogs, the editable source, together with a transparent thumbnail PNG.

Keep the .ogs file: it is what you reopen to make changes. When the graphic is ready for playout, export an OGraf package.
